C512 - Education Emergency Fund with Life Lebanon

by Myriad Canada Foundation

Context

The escalation of the conflict in the Middle East – and more recently in Lebanon – is creating yet another humanitarian crisis. Over 1 million Lebanese have been displaced from their homes, critical infrastructure has been damaged and essential services disrupted. Pre-existing vulnerabilities, such as widespread poverty and economic collapse, exacerbate the impact of the current conflict.

Since the beginning of the crisis, over 350,000 children have been left out of the education system. Education is one of the urgent issues in Lebanon, more specifically there is an urgent need for targeted interventions to support displaced populations and host communities and ensure educational continuity.

Goals

The objective of the fund is to provide formal education to school-age students from displaced and host communities, so that they don’t miss the academic year.

Myriad Canada is working with LIFE Generation on this project, a nonprofit whose mission is the advancement of education and the relief of need arising by reason of financial disadvantage amongst Lebanese or Lebanese descent students.

LIFE Generation, in partnership with Lebnet, will be working with trusted non-profit organizations in Lebanon to provide these educational services. These non-profit organizations are well-established, non-political organizations that pass a rigorous due diligence process. A committee, with external education specialists will oversee this initiative and manage NGO selection, proposal reviews, fund allocation & disbursement, and monitoring & evaluation.
