Today, mathematics occupies more and more space in our daily lives, but fewer and fewer young men and women have a taste for math and engage in scientific studies. Our future will be increasingly dependent on math and computer science: it is fundamental to give everyone the means to understand.
The Institut Henri Poincaré is carrying out a large-scale project to attract new generations to math: the Maison Poincaré.
Slated to open in 2023, the Maison Poincaré's goal is to democratize mathematics through the creation of an educational forum, and permanent and temporary exhibitions accessible to the greatest number of people possible: among the 20 000 visitors expected every year, 15 000 will be students from School field trips including 50% from priority education zones.
In a 900m² space, this new exhibition space dedicated to mathematical sciences will explain the different aspects of modern mathematics and how they relate to daily life, through educational content suitable for a young and non-specialist audience. The Maison Poincaré is designed to highlight the diverse environments in which math flourishes and help reveal vocations.
Since the beginning of the project, public and private funding united to advocate access to science for the greatest number of people and participate in influencing and developing a place dedicated to mathematical culture.
Private funding is collected by the Paris House of Math Endowment Fund to support projects where science and society intersect, such as the Maison Poincaré. By making donations to the Paris House of Math Endowment Fund, individuals and companies can support the proper functioning of the activities and resources offered at the Maison Poincaré, so that everyone can come and visit the math museum, without geographical distance or social background being an obstacle.
